Susan Lew - Head Athletic Trainer

The Athletic Treatment Center is headed by Susan Lew, who came to Stout in the fall of 2000. Lew earned her masters degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with an emphasis in sports medicine from South Dakota State University in 1996. She earned a bachelors degree from UW-Eau Claire in Corporate Exercise Management with a minor in sports medicine in 1994. Prior to coming to Stout, Lew was the head athletic trainer at Mt. Senario College in Ladysmith for three years. Lew has served internships at the Comprehensive Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Clinic in Coon Rapids, Minn., and the Chippewa Valley Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic in Eau Claire. She has worked as an athletic trainer with the Roseville, Minn., junior hockey league, an American women's soccer team that toured Holland and Denmark, and with Special Olympics programs. Lew, a native of Stillwater, Minn., and her husband, Dave, reside in Elk Mound with their sons, Dane, Brett and Nate.

 


Aaron Rouse - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Aaron Rouse began his first year with UW-Stout as an assistant athletic trainer in the fall of 2009.  Rouse received a bachelor's degree in athletic training for UW-Eau Claire and also has his master's from Eau Claire in education and professional development.  Rouse completed an internship through Chippewa Valley Orthopedics. Rouse has worked at nearby Chippewa Falls High School as an athletic trainer. Rouse enjoys playing golf in spring, summer and fall and snowboarding in the winter.

 


Dr. Paul McNally - Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Paul McNally is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine at Red Cedar Medical Center–Mayo Health System in Menomonie. Dr. McNally joined the medical center in 1998. Since then he has been serving as UW-Stout’s team physician, as well as caring for UW-Stout and area high school athletes. Dr. McNally has memberships in the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Osteopathic Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Osteopathic Association of Orthopedics, American Osteopathic Association and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. McNally completed his pre-med program at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania, his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed a year-long fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Iowa, where he served as assistant team physician. Dr. McNally and his wife, Kathy, a nurse anesthetist in Eau Claire, have four children: Lauren, Emily, Erin and Sophia. Dr. McNally enjoys watching all sporting events, playing golf, jogging, bicycling on the Red Cedar Trail, playing billiards, skiing, hunting and traveling.

Jane Foos - Registered Dietician

Jane Foos, registered, certified and clinical/sport dietitian at Red Cedar Medical Center–Mayo Health System in Menomonie, is the team dietitian for the University of Wisconsin Stout athletic department. Foos conducts yearly sport-specific nutrition programs, assists the athletic training and coaching staff in planning pre-game, sideline, half-time and travel fueling strategies and consults with teams and athletes on off-season body composition programs. She counsels individual athletes on a variety of performance concerns such as diabetes, hypoglycemia, food allergies, disordered eating, supplement use and injury recovery. Foos is on the list of approved NCAA grant speakers and provides presentations for coaching association conventions, staff workshops, booster clubs and teams. She is also the team dietitian for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country and track/field team. Foos received her degree in nutrition from Eastern Washington University and interned in Seattle, Washington. She serves as the Wisconsin Dietetic Association liaison to the WIAA, a certified skinfold tester with the WIAA wrestling program and is a member of SCAN.

Jeff Banks - Licensed Athletic Trainer

Jeff Banks ATC, L. serves as licensed athletic trainer for Red Cedar Medical Center–Mayo Health System in Menomonie. Along with his clinical duties, Banks also serves as assistant athletic trainer for UW-Stout. Banks received his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine from UW-Eau Claire. Banks has been a staff athletic trainer at Red Cedar Physical Rehabilitation since December of 1998. As a member of the Red Cedar Medical Center's Sports Medicine Team, Banks provides in-school athletic training services as well as selected game coverage for four outlying high schools: Colfax, Elmwood,  Glenwood City and Boyceville. Banks, originally from Arizona, has adapted well to Wisconsin's mild climate and enjoys the cooler weather for fall and winter sports. Jeff is a triplet and his brother is playing professional basketball in Europe. Banks and his wife Peggy have two children, Brianna and Dalton.

Amy Appel - Licensed Athletic Trainer

Amy Appel, LAT, serves as a licensed athletic trainer for the Red Cedar Medical Center–Mayo Health System in Menomonie. Along with coverage at UW-Stout, Appel also provides in-school athletic training services at Menomonie High School. Appel received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from UW-Eau Claire in 2005 and also received her master's degree at UW-Eau Claire in 2006. Appel, originally from Rochester, Minn., enjoys snowboarding, the outdoors, working out and being with friends and family. She and her husband, Matt, live in Eau Claire.
