Football
Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick Mengelkoch, TE, 6-4, 225, Jr, Champlin, Minn. (Park)

Patrick Mengelkoch scored a career-high three touchdowns in a 27-24 win over UW-Oshkosh to clinch Stout’s best finish since the 2000 season. Mengelkoch had five receptions for 69 yards with TDs of 12-, 18- and 10-yards scattered throughout the game. Mengelkoch scored in the first, second and fourth quarters. Mengelkoch had a 27-yard reception in the third quarter that set up a Kyle Martin 22-yard field goal. Mengelkoch finished the season as the Blue Devils’ leading receiver with 32 catches for 356 yards and six touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Week
Marcus Ball, DL, 6-1, 225, Sr, Austin, Minn.

Marcus Ball ran his season sack totals to 9.5 with two sacks in a 27-24 win over UW-Oshkosh. With the ball on the Stout 15 and Stout leading 7-0 in the first quarter, Ball had a 12 yard sack on third down, forcing a fourth-and-19. Ball got another third down sack, this time for 15 yards in the late in the second quarter. On the afternoon, Ball had five total tackles, all solo, with three tackles for loss, two sacks and one pass batted down.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Kyle Martin, K/P, 6-1, 190, Sr, Hubertus, Wis. (Kettle Moraine Lutheran)

Kyle Martin made all three extra points he attempted in a 27-24 win over UW-Oshkosh to run his career total to a perfect 74-of-74. Martin made two field goals for a total of nine points in the game. Martin punted three times for an average of 35.7 yards per kick, and placed one punt inside the 20, but the other two were fair caught on the 20-yard line. Martin finished his career scoring 143 points, 10th on the Stout all-time scoring list.

Men’s Ice Hockey
Andy Sternberg, F, 6-0, 180, Sr, Duluth, Minn. (East)

Andy Sternberg scored back-to-back goals in the second period to tie the score at 2-2, then went on to get an assist on what would be the game-tying goal in a 4-4 tie at St. Scholastica, Nov. 13. Sternberg came back to add an assist on the game-tying goal the following night, Nov. 14, in a 1-1 tie with the Saints. On the weekend, playing in his hometown (Duluth, Minn), the senior captain notched two goals, one even strength, one power play. Both of his assists came on power play goals and both assists were on the eventual game-tying goals in the weekend series.

Offensive Player of the Week
Craig Warminski, RB, 5-10, 200, So, Stanley, Wis. (Stanley-Boyd)

Craig Warminski rushed for 91 yards on 14 carries and scored one touchdown as UW-Stout defeated UW-Platteville, 43-10, Nov. 7 at home. Warminski scored on a 1-yard carry in the second quarter to give Stout a 22-0 lead. He also broke off his longest run of the season, a 52-yard scamper to the Platteville 9-yard line to set up the final score of the game in the third quarter.

Carlos Concepcion, RB, 6-1, 200, Jr, Milwaukee, Wis. (Custer)
Carlos Concepcion scored two touchdowns, including an 11-yard run where he bulled and rolled his way into the end zone to give Stout a 15-0 lead. Concepcion carried five times for 36 yards and also had two special teams tackles.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kendall Wade, DB, 6-0, 175, Sr, Milwaukee, Wis. (Bay View)
Kendall Wade returned an interception 36-yards for a touchdown and blocked a punt that led to a Stout score in the Blue Devils’ 43-10 win over UW-Platteville, Nov. 7. Wade stepped in front of a John Kelly pass and scurried down the visitor’s sideline to record his first collegiate interception return for a TD and his first collegiate touchdown. Wade blocked a punt in the third quarter and three plays later, Stout scored to run the score to 36-10. Wade had eight tackles on the day, seven solo, and had one tackle for a loss.

Brian Saaf, LB, 6-0, 225, Sr, Bloomington, Minn. (Jefferson)
Brian Saaf notched a career-high 10 tackles, six solo, in making his first start on senior day. Saaf was also in on two tackles for loss.

Trevor Fiege, LB, 5-10, 215, So, Menomonie, Wis.
Trevor Fiege led Stout with 12 tackles, four solo, in the Blue Devils’ win over Platteville. Fiege had one sack for seven yards and had 1.5 tackles for loss.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Justin Hultman, RB, 5-11, 185, So, Bruce, Wis.

Justin Hultman was a terror on special teams, getting a head of steam and getting into six special teams tackles, three solo.

Offensive Scout Players of the Week

Men’s Ice Hockey
Tom Lescovich, G, 6-2, 170, Fr, Clifton Park, NY (Christian Brothers)
Tom Lescovich was perfect as he did not allow a goal in five periods as UW-Stout got on the winning track with a 6-1 win over St. Mary’s, Nov. 6, and a shutout 8-0 win over St. Thomas, Nov. 7. On the weekend, Lescovich turned away all 44 shots sent his way for a saves percentage of 1.000. Lescovich recorded 15 saves in the St. Mary’s win, then turned back 29 shots to record his first collegiate shut out against St. Thomas. On the season in four games, Lescovich has a GAA of 1.69 with 97 saves (.951 saves percentage).

Offensive Player of the Week
Ross Carey, QB, 6-1, 170, So, Little Suamico, Wis. (Oconto Falls)

Quarterback Ross Carey rushed 12 times for 161 yards, including a 61 yard scamper that set up Stout's second score, ran for one score, was not sacked on the day and completed 13-of-16 passes for 131 yards and a score as UW-Stout defeated UW-La Crosse, 35-28, at UW-La Crosse Saturday. Carey finished with 292 total yards of offense. He had five rushes for more than 10 yards (21, 61, 14, 11, 34-td). His 6-yard pass to Patrick Mengelkoch tied the score at 7-7 early in the second period, and his 61-yard run set up Craig Warminski’s first TD of the day to tie the score again at 14-14. Carey’s 34 yard touchdown run on the second play in the fourth quarter gave Stout a 28-14 lead and capped off a 9-play, 99-yard drive. On that drive, Carey rushed for 59 yards on three carries, and completed two passes for 12 yards.

Defensive Players of the Week
Adam Churchill, DB, 6-1, 185, Jr, Plum City, Wis.

Adam Churchill had 12 tackles, nine solo, as Stout defeated UW-La Crosse, 35-28, Oct. 31.

Marcus Ball recorded a solo sack for 10 yards and forced a fumble in Stout’s 35-28 win over La Crosse Saturday. Ball finished the day with three tackles, two solo.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Carlos Concepcion, RB, 6-1, 200, Jr, Milwaukee, Wis. (Custer)

After UW-La Crosse pulled to within 28-21, Carlos Concepcion returned the ensuing kickoff 38 yards to the LaCrosse 46, giving Stout good field position. Stout needed five plays to score and regain a two-touchdown lead. Concepcion had one special teams tackle. Offensively, Concepcion hauled in two passes for 36 yards total.

Offensive Players of the Week
Craig Warminski, RB, 6-0, 200, So, Stanley, Wis. (Stanley-Boyd)

Craig Warminski rushed 26 times for 167 yards and one touchdown and caught one nine yard pass for a touchdown in Stout’s 36-15 win over UW-Eau Claire Oct. 24. Both of Warminski’s TDs came in the first half. Warminski also had a 26 yard run to the EC 1 late in the first half that set up Stout’s third touchdown of the half.

Ross Carey, QB, 6-1, 170, So, Little Suamico, Wis. (Oconto Falls)
Ross Carey completed 12-of-17 passes for 170 yards and threw for two TDs with no interceptions in Stout’s 36-15 win at UW-Eau Claire. Carey also rushed 17 times for 72 yards and ran in twice for scores. Included in Carey’s passes was a 47 yard completion to Adam Winberg that was all through the air.

Defensive Player of the Week
Marcus Ball, DL, 6-1, 225, Sr, Austin, Minn

Marcus Ball led a defensive attack that included three sacks of the UW-Eau Claire quarterbacks, with Ball getting two sacks and one quarterback hurry. Both of the sacks by Ball were 10 yard losses .Ball finished the day with five tackles, all solo.

Kyle Martin ran his streak of consecutive points after touchdown to 61 after four PATs in a 36-15 win over UW-Eau Claire, Oct. 24. Martin also punted four times for a 36.0 y/punt average with one inside the 20.

Andrea Greer had a great game both at St. Olaf and against Whitewater. She scored the second half goal against Whitewater to give us momentum going through the second half rush. She distributed and contributed effectively to keep our attack going.

Defensive
Courtney Tideman, D, 5-8, So, Sartell, Minn.

Courtney Tideman played every minute of both games this week and was a big part of the reason why St. Olaf was held to 10 shots on goal and Whitewater was only able to put four shots on goal the entire game.

Women’s Cross Country
Becca Hamm, Fr, Owen, Wis. (Owen-Withee)

Becca Hamm (Fr, Owen) paced the UW-Stout women's cross country team at a snowy, blowy Lake Wissota Invitational Friday. Hamm placed 15th in a time of 20-minutes, 36-seconds.

Men’s Cross Country
Erik Haapakoski, So, Milwaukee, Wis. (Greenfield)

Erik Haapakoski finished 21st (29:55) at Lake Wissota Invitational Friday, cutting 30 seconds off his time from last season, despite running the race in nearly two inches of freshly fallen, heavy wet snow

Defensive Player of the Week
Adam Churchill, DB, 6-1, 185, Jr, Plum City, Wis.

Adam Churchill returned an interception 74 yards in a 38-3 loss to UW-Whitewater Saturday. Churchill picked off Whitewater’s Jeff Donovan – it was Donovan’s second interception of the year – at the Stout 18 and returned it the Whitewater 8 yard line. Churchill had 10 tackles on the day, four solo.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Kyle Martin, K/P, 6-1, 190, Sr, Hubertus, Wis. (Kettle Moraine Lutheran)

Kyle Martin scored Stout’s only points in a 38-3 loss to second ranked UW-Whitewater and punted the ball twice for a 41.0 average.

Jessica Price, F, 5-6, Jr, Woodbury, Minn.

Jessica Price scored the eventual game winning goal in Stout’s 3-0 win over UW-Superior. Price scored in the 53rd minute to break a scoreless tie, then scored in the final two minutes of the game in a 3-0 win, Oct. 17. In a 3-2 overtime non-conference win over St. Catherine, Price scored the game tying goal in the 73rd minute as Stout came back from a 2-0 deficit to finish the week with three goals.

Defensive
Kaitlin Arjes, D, 5-8, Jr, Owatonna, Minn.

Kaitlin Arjes scored the game-winning goal in overtime in a 3-2 win over St. Catherine. Arjes took a high pass from Ali Sonsteby and headed the ball in to put an end to the game Oct. 18. Playing as the stopper, Arjes played a key role in a 3-0 shutout over UW-Superior, Oct. 17.


Women’s Tennis
Singles
Stephanie Schick, So, Altoona, Wis.

Stephanie Schick played a strong match in a 6-2, 6-3 loss at No. 5 singles against UW-La Crosse.

Women’s Cross Country
Alexa Ahler, So, Waukesha, Wis. (West)

Alexa Ahler placed 93rd of 466 runners at the Brooks Cross Country Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Course Saturday. Ahler led Stout with a time of 23-minutes, 12.27-seconds in the 6-kilometer course.

Men’s Cross Country
Peter Johnston, Jr, Madison, Wis. (Memorial)

Peter Johnston finished 32nd out of 551 runners, Saturday, at the Brooks Cross Country Invite hosted by UW-Oshkosh. Johnston's finished the race with a time of 25:08.1, making him the Blue Devils' only runner inside the top 100.

Offensive Player of the Week
Craig Warminski, RB, 5-10, 200, So, Stanley, Wis. (Stanley-Boyd)

Craig Warminski accounted for the bulk of UW-Stout’s offense in a 7-6 loss to UW-Stevens Point Saturday. Warminski ran for 138 yards on 28 carries, and caught four passes for 29 yards. Warminski finished the day with 167 total all-purpose yards on 32 plays as Stout tallied 225 yards on the day in 66 plays.

Defensive Player of the Week
Marcus Ball, DE, 6-1, 225, Sr, Austin, Minn.

After returning from an injury that kept him out of three games, Marcus Ball had five tackles, three solo in a 7-6 loss at UW-Stevens Point Saturday. Ball had 2.5 sacks for 16 yards and 3.5 tackles for loss for 17 yards. In addition, Ball forced two fumbles and was credited with one quarterback hurry. Ball had back-to-back sacks/fumble forced in the second quarter. With 1:05 remaining in the first half, Ball sacked the Stevens Point quarterback, who fumbled. Stevens Point recovered the ball, but Ball racked up another sack on the next play, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Stout with 25 seconds remaining on the Pointer 27. Three plays later, Kyle Martin kicked a field goal as time expired to put Stout up 6-0 at halftime.

Kate Mikutowski recorded nine kills, 10 digs, one block solo and two block assists as UW-Stout came from behind to defeat UW-Superior, 3-1, Oct. 7 in Superior.

Jessica Price, F, 5-6, Jr, Woodbury, Minn.

Jessica Price’s goal put UW-Stout ahead of UW-LaCrosse with a bullet of a shot where the ball literally got stuck between the net and the back post. Price was part of the pressure that put Stout in position for other chances against LaCrosse. Stout lost to Hamline, 1-0, Oct. 6, and lost to La Crosse, 3-2, Oct. 10.

Defensive
Christy Wright, D, 5-7, Fr, Eden Prairie, Minn.

Christy Wright shut down UW-La Crosse's leading scorer and held Hamline to only six shots for the game. She played all of the Hamline game and the majority of the La Crosse game. Stout lost to Hamline, 1-0, Oct. 6, and lost to La Crosse, 3-2, Oct. 10.

Women’s Golf
Becca Eggers, Fr, Rosemount,Minn.

Becca Eggers finished sixth at the WIAC Women’s Golf Championships last weekend at Northern Bay Golf and Marina. Eggers matched the highest UW-Stout individual finish at the WIAC championships by carding an 80-84-85 – 249. Stout finished fourth, matching a team-best fourth place from last season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick Mengelkoch, TE, 6-4, 225, Jr, Champlin, Minn. (Champlin Park)

Patrick Mengelkoch scored Stout’s only touchdown of the game and, with the extra point, it proved to be the game-winner in a 13-12 overtime win over UW-River Falls, Oct. 3. Mengelkoch hauled in four passes on the day for a game-high 40 yards. His 9-yard touchdown reception came just inside the end zone on third-and-seven.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kendall Wade, DB, 6-1, 175, Sr, Milwaukee, Wis. (Bay View)

Kendall Wade had four pass breakups – including two that would have resulted in River Falls first downs – in Stout’s 13-12 overtime win over UW-River Falls, Oct. 3. Wade had six total tackles, four solo.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Kyle Martin, K/P, 6-1, 190, Sr, Hubertus, Wis. (Kettle Moraine Lutheran)

Kyle Martin ran his career streak of consecutive PATs to 57 with one extra point made, and this one proved to be the critical game-winning point in a 13-12 overtime win over UW-River Falls, Oct. 3. Martin had two field goals in the second quarter, the second to tie the game at 6-6. Martin hit field goals of 19- and 22-yards. Punting, Martin booted five kicks for 205 yards for a 41.0 average, including a long of 50-yards. He pinned two punts inside the 20 and had one touchback.

Kate Mikutowski finished the week in three matches with 40 total kills (3.64 k/set), including 19 in a four set loss to Bethel University, Oct. 3. She also had 39 digs (3.55/set) and eight block assists. The Blue Devils lost to UW-Stevens Point, 3-1, Oct. 2 and defeated Hamline University, 3-0, Oct. 3.

Ali Sonsteby, F, 5-7, Jr, Clearwater, Minn. (Monticello)

Ali Sonsteby scored the game winning goal in overtime to lift Stout to a 2-1 win at UW-River Falls, Sept. 30. Sonsteby had four shots, including three on net, on the week over two games.

Defensive
Courtney Tideman, D, 5-8, So, Sartell, Minn.

In a 2-1 overtime win at UW-River Falls, Sept. 30, Courtney Tideman several times tracked an offensive player from corner to corner and shut down the player on a one-on-one. She also blocked a couple of shots when the goalie was beaten.

Women’s Tennis
Singles
Allie Hinman, Jr, Lino Lakes, Minn. (Centennial)

Allie Hinman won both singles matches last at No. 1 singles, defeating Gina Dahl of UW-Eau Claire, 6-4, 6-4, for Stout’s only win against the Blugolds, Oct. 2, and a 6-4, 6-2 win over Rachel Benn of UW-Stevens Point, Oct. 3. Hinman’s season record is 14-3.

Women’s Golf
Becca Eggers, Fr, Rosemount,Minn.

Becca Eggers finished eighth at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational Oct. 3-4 at the UW-Stevens Point Country Club. Eggers carded an 86-88 for a 174.

Men’s Golf
Derek Holmes, Sr, Ramsey, Minn. (Anoka)

Derek Holmes came back from fourth place first day start to win the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational Sept. 28 at the Eau Claire Country Club. Holmes hit a 74-75 – 149 to win the event by two strokes.

Women’s Cross Country
Emily Stenzel, Jr, North Mankato, Minn. (Mankato West)

Emily Stenzel paced UW-Stout at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational, Oct. 2 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, coming in with a time of 24-minutes, 3-seconds in the 6-kilometer course to finish 38th. Stenzel last season recorded a time of 24:14 on the same course.

Men’s Cross Country
Tim Nelson, Fr, Augusta, Wis.

Tim Nelson finished 11th at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational, Oct. 2 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, coming in with a time of 26-minutes, 27-seconds on the 8-kilometer course.

Offensive Player of the Week

Craig Warminski carried the ball nine times for 96 yards and a touchdown in UW-Stout’s 40-6 win over Eureka College Sept. 26. Warminski’s 23-yard run through the Eureka defense late in the second quarter gave Stout a 26-3 lead. Stout went on to a 40-6 win over the first time opponent.

Ron Fricke, RB, 6-1, 205, Sr, Albertville, Minn. (St. Michael-Albertville)
Ron Fricke rushed nine times for 93 yards and a score in Stout's 40-6 win over Eureka College. Fricke's 13 yard run early in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring inthe game. On that scoring drive, Fricke rushed seven times for 53 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jamin Ramsay, LB, 6-1, 215, Sr, Lodi, Wis.

Jamin Ramsay had three sacks to lead UW-Stout’s sack attack against Eureka College where the Blue Devils defense racked up six sacks, all solo sacks. Ramsay’s three sacks tallied 19 yards and helped contribute to Eureka’s minus-59 yards rushing. Ramsey had a two-yard sack to close the first quarter, a 10 yard sack early in the second quarter and his third for seven yards late in the second quarter. Ramsay finished the day with five tackles, four solo, three sacks and four tackles-for-losses of 26 yards. Stout won the game, 40-6.

Justin Rindt, DL, 6-5, 270, Jr, Grafton, Wis. (Dominican)
Justin Rindt collected four total tackles, three solo, including a 10 yard sack and two tackles for losses of 15 yards.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Hope Weilage, MH, 5-9, Fr, Marshall, Minn.

Hope Weilage had a strong weekend defensively at the net, racking up 10 solo blocks over four matches and 12 assisted blocks for a 1.47 per set average. Weilage, who was named to the UW-Platteville all-tournament team, also had 20 kills, three service aces and 12 digs.

Grace Salwasser, F, 5-2, So, Cottage Grove, Minn. (Park)

On the week, Grace Salwasser had a hand in two game-winning goals and an assist that tied the game. Against UW-Platteville in a 2-0 win, Salwasser took the corner kick that led to Stout’s first and eventual winning goal against Platteville, Sept. 26. The following day, Salwasser took the corner kick that led to the game-tying goal against St. Norbert late in the first half, then got the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal in the box, taking a pass from Kaitlin Arjes in a 3-1 non-conference home win against St. Norbert.

Defensive
Courtney Tideman, D, 5-8, So, Sartell, Minn.

Courtney Tideman played a total of 270 minutes over three games last week, anchoring a defense that adjusted to a new lineup giving up only two goals in three games, and limited shots for all opponents. Tideman also scored the tying goal in Sunday’s 3-1 against St. Norbert, taking a corner kick from Grace Salwasser and heading the ball into the net. Stout opened the week with a 2-1 loss to Bethel University, Sept. 22, then got their first win of the season, a 2-0 win over UW-Platteville, Sept. 26 before downing St. Norbert, 3-1, Sept. 27.

Singles
Allie Hinman, Jr, Lino Lakes, Minn. (Centennial)

Allie Hinman tore through the competition in the first two rounds of the ITA Midwest Regionals at Gustavus Adolphus College last weekend, then ran into a buzz saw in the third round. Hinman defeated Carly Buhrman of UW-La Crosse in the first round, 6-2, 6-2. then went on to dominate Hilary Allen of Coe College, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round. In the third round, Hinman lost to Molly Estwick of Wartburg College, 6-1, 6-1,

Doubles
Allie Hinman, Jr, Lino Lakes, Minn. (Centennial)/Abby Werwie, Fr, Kenosha, Wis. (Bradford)

Hinman and Abby Werwie won their first round match at the ITA Midwest Regional at Gustavus Adolphus College, defeating a St. Thomas team, 8-2, then bowed out of the tournament with an 8-6 loss to a team from Gustavus Adolphus that went on to finish second in the tournament.

Women’s Cross Country
Alexa Ahler, So, Waukesha, Wis. (West)

UW-Stout's Alexa Ahler was Stout’s leader at the Roy Griak Invitatational at the University of Minnesota where the Blue Devils ran in the Maroon – Division II race Saturday. Ahler finished 55th among 287 runners with a time of 24:39.39.

Men’s Cross Country
Peter Johnston, So, Madison, Wis. (Memorial)

Peter Johnston finished 16th of 370 runners in the 8K of the Maroon Division III at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota Saturday. Johnston clocked a time of 26:22.3. Last year, on the same course, Johnston finished in a time of 27:05. As a team, Stout finished 15th of 35 teams.

Kendra Pagel, MH, 5-9, Sr, Wausau, Wis. (West)

Kendra Pagel finished the week with nine kills, and a hitting percentage of .233 as the Blue Devils lost to UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh by 3-0 scores. Pagel also had a solo block and three assisted blocks to average a team-high 0.67 blocks over the weekend.

Jessica Price, F, 5-6, Jr, Woodbury, Minn.

Jessica Price gave Stout a 1-0 lead late in the first period with a breakaway goal through the UW-Eau Claire defense. The Blue Devils lost the conference opener, 2-1 in overtime, to the Blugolds, Sept. 16.

Defensive
Kaitlin Arjes, GK, 5-8, Jr, Owatonna, Minn.

Despite losing two games last week, Kaitlin Arjes continued to offer top-notch play in the goal for the Blue Devils. In her first year as a collegiate goalkeeper, the junior made four saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to UW-Eau Claire, Sept. 16, then gave up an early goal and shut UW-Stevens Point out the rest of the way recording nine saves in a 1-0 loss Sept. 19. After six games, Arjes has a goals against average of 1.48.

Women’s Golf
Becca Eggers, Fr, Rosemount, Minn.

Becca Eggers lopped off several strokes from her first day effort, going from an 86 to an 82 to finish in a tie for 30th place with a 168 at the Division III Midwest Classic at the Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, Minn., Sept. 19-20.

Men’s Golf
Andy Smith, Jr, Grand Marais, Minn. (Cook County)

Andy Smith did not waiver from day one to day two at the St. John's University Fall Invitational at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course Sunday. Smith played a very steady 75 on the first day at Greystone Golf Course in Sauk Centre, Minn, then came back at Blackberry Ridge to drop a stroke to 74 and finish in a four-way tie for third with a 149. As a team, UW-Stout finished the first day in third place, and finished the meet in third place, despite trimming six total strokes from the first day.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ross Carey, QB, 6-1, 170, So, Little Suamico, Wis. (Oconto Falls)

Ross Carey rallied Stout back from a 14-7 third quarter deficit to score 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to lift the Blue Devils to a 24-14 non-conference win at Jamestown College. In the fourth quarter, Carey completed four passes for 45 yards and one TD, a 14 yard pass to tight end Patrick Mengelkoch. He also rushed three times in the quarter for 25 yards. Carey got the Blue Devils on the board early in the game, hitting Antawan Walker for a 60-yard scoring play on the second play from scrimmage. On the day, Carey was 19 of 32 for 234 yards with two TDs and no interceptions.

Defensive Player of the Week
Mike Berg, DB, 6-0, 195, Sr, Watkins, Minn. (Eden Valley-Watkins)

Mike Berg helped seal a 24-14 win at Jamestown College when he intercepted a pass with less than a minute to play. Berg had a career day, finishing the day with the interception, three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, including a tackle for a loss.

Kyle Martin, K/P, 6-1, 190, Sr, Hubertus, Wis. (Kettle Moraine Lutheran)

Kyle Martin ran his streak of consecutive PATs to 51 with three extra points made in a 24-14 win at Jamestown College Saturday. Martin hit a career-best 42 yard field goal to give Stout the final 10-point spread with just under two minutes remaining. Martin averaged 41.0 yards over four punts, with a long of 45 and pinned one punt inside the 20. In addition, Martin caught one pass for 11 yards.

Volleyball
Alicia Mizer, L, 5-4, Sr, Barron, Wis.

Alicia Mizer has been a steady influence on a young team, providing senior leadership from the libero spot. Mizer was named to the UW-Stout Volleyball Invitational all-tournament team. Stout went 3-2 on the week, and Mizer had 105 digs (5.25 d/g). She also had four kills and five service aces.

Courtney Tideman, D, 5-8, So, Sartell, Minn

Courtney Tideman almost single-handedly kept St. Thomas scoreless for the game and into the two overtimes where the Blue Devils lost, 1-0, in double overtime. She was also a player of note in a 3-0 loss against Augustana.

Women’s Tennis
Singles
Allie Hinman, Jr, Lino Lakes, Minn. (Centennial)

After suffering her first loss of the season in a conference dual to UW-Whitewater Friday at No. 1 singles, Allie Hinman won the A Singles Draw at the Warhawk Invitational, winning three matches, Saturday. Hinman defeated Eva Counsell of UW-Oshkosh, 6-3, 6-0, in the first round, then defeated Ingrid Stensvaag of UW-Whitewater in the semi-final round, 6-2,6-4. Hinman defeated Anne Smith of UW-Whitewater, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6) in the championship match. Hinman then had little trouble in taking two wins at No. 1 singles, over Beloit College (W 6-0, 6-2 over Hannah Perwin) and Loras College (6-1, 6-0 over Ale Ruales), Sunday. Hinman is currently 8-1 on the season, all at No. 1 singles. Stout lost to Beloit, 6-3, but defeated Loras, 7-2.

Allie Hinman and Abby Werwie won 8-3 over Beloit College and 8-0 over Loras College Sunday. The pair lost to UW-Whitewater, Friday.


Women’s Golf
Becca Eggers, Fr, Rosemount,Minn.

Becca Eggers cut off six strokes from the opening day (88-82 – 170) at the Wartburg College Fall Invitational to finish in a tie for 26th win teammate Morgan Logan.

Men’s Golf
Derek Holmes, Sr, Ramsey, Minn. (Anoka)

Derek Holmes powered a Stout come from behind win when he posted a second round low 70 on the second day of the Augsburg College Fall Invitational Sunday. The Blue Devils were tied for fifth coming into the second day of the tournament. Holmes carded a 76 on day one and finished with 146 to place second individually. The Blue Devils wound up winning the 14-team meet by three strokes.

Women’s Cross Country
Alexa Ahler, So, Waukesha, Wis. (West)

UW-Stout's Alexa Ahler took first place at Saturday's Saint Mary's Alumni Open, while teammate Emily Stenzel took home the silver. Ahler finished the 5000-meter race in 20 minutes and 28 seconds. The meet was unscored.

Men’s Cross Country
Peter Johnston, Jr, Madison, Wis. (Memorial)

Peter Johnston led a contingent of four UW-Stout runners to the top four spots at the St. Mary’s Alumni Open, Saturday, in Winona, Minn. Johnston was the only runner to break the 22-minute mark on the 4-mile course, clocking a time of 21-minutes, 43-seconds. The meet was unscored.

Offensive Player of the Week
Carlos Concepcion, RB, 6-1, 200, Jr, Milwaukee, Wis. (Custer)

Carlos Concepcion delivered his first 100 yard rushing game as a Blue Devil, picking up a big chunk of yardage in a 70-yard TD dash that sealed a season and home opening 35-7 win for UW-Stout over Simpson College, Sept. 5. Concepcion finished the day as the game’s leading rusher, tallying 124 yards on eight carries. Concepcion averaged 15.5 yds/carry, but even before his final carry of the game – the 70-yard TD run – he was averaging 7.7 yards per tote. Last season, Concepcion carried the ball 13 times for 40 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Pearcy, LB, 5-10, 205, So, Plover, Wis. (SPASH)

Making his first start as a Blue Devil, Ryan Pearcy led UW-Stout in tackles in a 35-7 home win over Simpson College, Sept. 5. Pearcy had six solo tackles and two assisted tackles. He also had one pass break up.

Volleyball
Kate Mikutowski, MH, 5-9, Fr, Stillwater, Minn.

Kate Mikutowskii has offensively helped to lead UW-Stout to their best start since the 2004 season, leading the Blue Devils in kills in five of the team’s six games as Stout has opened the season with a 5-1 overall record. Mikutowski had 15 kills in a season opening 3-0 win over Northland, and 13 in a 3-2 win over St. Scholastica later that day. In the UW-Eau Claire Invitational where Stout went 3-1, Mikutowski had 12 kills against 21st ranked Gustavus Adolphus (W 3-0), 14 against St. Scholastica (W 3-1) and nine against Judson University (W 3-0). In the opening week, Mikutowski was named to the all-tournament team at Eau Claire and recorded 66 kills (3.14 k/g), had a attack percentage of .206, six service aces, 63 digs (3.0 d/g), three solo blocks, five block assists (0.38 b/g).

Kaitlin Arjes, G, 5-8, Jr, Owatonna, Minn.

While Kaitlin Arjes is 0-2 after two starts in the goal, she is posting a goals against average of 1.00 after UW-Stout lost, 1-0, to Augsburg College, Sept. 1, and lost 1-0 at North Park University, Sept. 3. Arjes, who generally plays in the field as a midfielder or defender, has made her first collegiate starts in net this last week and has turned away 10 shots with a saves percentage of .833 in playing all 180 minutes. In her first start, Arjes did not allow a goal until the 60th minute.

In the season opener, a 5-4 loss to St. Norbert at Eau Claire, Sept. 5, Allie Hinman recorded a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against Kelly Van Handel, and teamed with Abby Werwie for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.

Women’s Golf
Becca Eggers, Fr, Rosemount,Minn.

In her first collegiate tournament, Becca Eggers carded a 172 to place 34th out of 111 golfers at the Doug Georgianni Memorial UW-Eau Claire Invitational, Sept. 5-6. Eggers turned in an 88 on the first day at Mill Run Golf Club, then cut off four strokes for an 84 on the second day at Wild Ridge Golf Club. As a team, Stout placed ninth. Last year, Stout placed 13th in the same tournament.

Men’s Golf
Andy Smith, Jr, Grand Marais, Minn. (Cook County)

Andy Smith carved five strokes off his first day totals and jumped 14 spots to finish in a five-way tie for fourth at the Culvers’ Edgewood College Invitational, Sept. 4-5, at Glen Erin Golf Club in Janesville. Smith had a 77 on the first day and a 72 on the second day to finish with a 149. As a team, UW-Stout won the tournament by eight strokes.
